INSTALLATION
The research and practice conducted over the course of Sukeshi Sondhi’s Masters of Art in Fine Arts degree at Lasalle College of the Arts (Singapore) in affiliation with the Goldsmiths, University of London (UK) in 2015-16 culminated into a body of works that are informed by gender and identity through location of the self, and performativity of the object in the everyday. Violence and tension is implicit in the poetics and visual language of the fragmented objects and gestures. Through drawings, sculptures and installation, the artist alludes to the dualities of vulnerability/strength, absence/presence, and personal/political.
Sukeshi’s intent was to create socially engaged works which remain critical from an artistic and female perspective. The artist scouted and collected found objects and historically/socially relevant domestic objects to create a series of installations which have been showcased in group and solo shows in Singapore and USA.
